The Launch of Agents of Change Programme

In celebration of #WorldEnvironmentDay, we’re launching our free 4-week Agents of Change programme.

If you have a desire to make your industry, company or community more environmentally-friendly, but don’t know where to start, then join us as we share real stories, inspiration and support to help you step up and make your voice heard. You don’t have to be a #sustainability expert to make a real difference.

The theme of this year’s Environment Day is ‘Time #ForNature’. During lockdown, many of us have realised the value and healing powers of nature. Now it’s time to #buildbackbetter, what could you do to make your business a force for good? Let’s go on this journey together. Every week we’ll focus on a topic with videos, inspiring articles and worksheets.

The programme will end on Thursday 2nd July with a free Sustainability Kick-Start online workshop. Visit our Agents of Change page for more information and go to https://event.webinarjam.com/register/2/lpvg1um to register for the free workshop.

Mental Health & The Built Environment

It was the UK Mental Health Awareness week from 18th to 22nd May, and ‘kindness’ was this year’s theme. In alignment to the theme, we have teamed up with Welltek, a company who has taken the initiative to provide Neurosonic products to hospitals to help workers who are battling on the front line.

Catch up with Element 4 Group Ltd‘s Georgia Elliott-Smith and Emma Jenkins at Welltek in our last webinar where they talked about how designers, owners and operators can support and encourage better mental health for building users:

We can’t change overnight… (and other surprising myths)

Many people have been made working from home during the lock down amid Coronavirus. Before we return to the workplace, our Director at Element 4, Georgia Elliott-Smith, had a discussion with Leeson Medhurst, the Director of Workplace Strategy at Workplace Futures Group about the importance of well being and sustainability. They also debunked the myths about what is going to happen when we return to the workplace, and how businesses can embrace recent radical changes and flourish in a post-Covid-19 world.

Fitwel 1 Star Rating Award to Woking Borough Council

We’re delighted to announce that Woking Borough Council has been awarded a Fitwel Certification System 1 Star Rating for their Civic Offices in Woking town centre. This makes Woking the first local authority and public sector organisation in both Europe and the UK to receive this award demonstrating their commitment to the health and wellbeing of staff and residents. Element 4 Group Ltd is proud to have assisted Woking Borough Council to become part of the global movement in Building Health for All.

Element 4 Tops Global Fitwel Directory

A newly published directory shows that Element 4’s Georgia Elliott-Smith is the world’s leading Fitwel consultant on schemes outside the USA, with more projects having achieved or working towards certification than any other practice.

The global Fitwel project directory, published on 9th August by the Center for Active Design, shows that worldwide Perkins & Will and Gensler lead the pack, but between them have only seven projects outside the USA. Georgia is in third place globally with eight projects, all in the UK. WSP and Arup have six and four projects respectively.

80% of Fitwel-certified properties are currently in the USA, but uptake of the standard is quickly growing elsewhere.

Element 4 on the London Fitwel Embassy Panel – 8th July 2019

Last night, Georgia Elliott-Smith was invited to speak on the panel of the inaugral UK Fitwel Embassy event at Schroders’ new Dept.W building in Whitechapel.

A lively debate took place around practical application of the standard and lessons learned since Fitwel launched in 2017. Georgia says “The event heralds an explosion in UK Fitwel certifications with leading investors and employers recognising the incredible value of implementing wellbeing features in property design and operation.

As the UK’s leading Fitwel consultant, I am proud to promote these values and educate the industry on the powerfully positive impact the built environment can have on health and wellbeing.”
